Aether Wraith

Aether Wraiths are powerful, otherworldly creatures that are believed to inhabit the Ethereal plane. They are rarely seen, but there are occasional stories of them being summoned by unwitting wizards who attempt to use teleportation spells.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Aether Wraiths are distinctive in appearance, with bronze metallic rings spiraling around their bodies and long, clawed arms. They also have glowing purple eyes and emit a thick black smoke. They are known to be able to phase in and out of reality, making them difficult to track and capture.

Ecology and Habitats

These creatures are thought to serve as a natural defense system for the Ethereal plane, protecting it from any attempts to travel directly from one plane to another. They are extremely territorial, and anyone who dares to enter their realm risks incurring their wrath.

Civilization and Culture

History

Despite their fearsome reputation, little is known about the true nature of Aether Wraiths and how they came to exist in the Ethereal plane. Some speculate that they are ancient beings that have been guarding this realm for eons, while others believe they are the result of a powerful magical experiment gone wrong. Whatever their origins, one thing is certain: these creatures should be feared and respected by all who encounter them.

Ethereal Jaunt. As a bonus action, the aether wraith can enter the Ethereal plane from the Material plane, or vice versa.   Incorporeal Movement. The aether wraith can move through other creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain. It takes 5 (1d10) force damage if it ends its turn inside an object. If it moves through a creature, that creature must make a successful DC 14 Dexterity saving throw or take 7 (2d6) slashing damage from the aether wraith's rings.

Actions

Multiattack. The aether wraith makes two claw attacks.   Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (2d6 + 3) slashing damage.   Reality Warp (Recharge 5-6). As an action, the aether wraith can manipulate reality, creating a distortion in the fabric of space within 60 feet. All creatures within 10 feet of a chosen point must make a successful DC 14 Dexterity saving throw or take 10 (3d6) force damage.   Phasing Strike. The aether wraith phases in and out of reality, allowing it to make a claw attack against each creature within 5 feet of it. Each creature must make a successful DC 14 Dexterity saving throw or take 10 (2d6 + 3) slashing damage.

Reactions

Phasing Defense. As a reaction, the aether wraith can phase out of reality when hit by an attack, causing the attack to miss. It can then immediately use its reaction to move up to half its speed, ending its movement in an unoccupied space of its choice.
