Astral Plane

The Astral Plane is the plane of dreams and magic. Originally, it was the plane from which all deities drew their magic, before the discovery and beginning use of divine magic instead. There are few deities who still draw power from the astral plane, most notably Myldala. It was not very accessible by most mortals due to its distance from the material plane, with only the most exceptional mortals being able to even glimpse its power. This changed, however, with the rise of Myldala, a god who originated as a mortal but gained unparalleled amounts of power that even rival that of greater deities. She interwove the fabrics of the astral plane into the material plane and the other planes of existence, tying them all close together and giving them all access to arcane magic. Myldala remains the only being in existence to ever have accessed planar magic or to have been able to manipulate the planes as she did, other than maybe Sesais. In the current day, this “Weave” of the astral plane is accessed any time a mortal performs an act of arcane magic. Spells like “Dream” are much more direct in their use of the astral plane, as they involve mental transport to what remains of the astral plane itself, or spells such as “Teleport” which harness the ties of the Weave to jump from one point to another. The doorways between the planes, scattered across them, are the result of tears in the Weave, easier to create than fix. Certain types of abberant arcane magic originating from the Weave can cause variations in mortals, such as the existence of genasi. Pockets of the Astral Plane may be separated to create pocket dimensions as well, a type of magic accessible only to very powerful arcanists.
