Clearstone Fatigue

Transmission & Vectors

Using Clearstone for magic too often for years of one's life increases the likelihood of developing Cleatstone Fatigue. The use of one stone doubles the chance of a person acquiring the disease. Fatigue is associated with older people because this section of the population is also more likely to acquire it, although there are cases of onset earlier in adulthood.

Causes

Clearstone is the transparent, crystalline substance that allows for all magic in Calpshera. It falls from the sky within meteorites, which themselves are small pieces of one of numerous comets that regularly pass by the world. It takes the form of larger stones, which are then cut into smaller ones for use in the magical arts. The crystals act as a battery for magic, the energy within can be applied by a magic user toward their magic. As the Clearstone's energy is used up, the crystal goes from transparent to translucent and then to opaque. Stones last five years under constant use, so frequent users go through multiple stones in their lives. Fear of this condition causes people to ration the use of magic, although the magic is quite powerful in battle and useful in daily life.

Symptoms

First, a sufferer forgets details about their lives, such as what they ate for breakfast that day or the names of people they recently met. This progresses after a few years to forgetting about themselves and those close to them. Clearstone Fatigue does not kill you, but it eventually causes a person to become a shell of their former shelves. These Shells, as they are known, are unable to speak, are incontinent, and unable to care for themselves without assistance.

Treatment

There is no treatment for Clearstone Fatigue and once the symptoms begin to manifest,

Prevention

The only prevention is limiting one's use of Clearstone power earlier in life.
