Council of Magi

The Council of Magi are the leading organization of The University in Starcaster. When the University was founded, the Council consisted only of the heads of the wizardly schools in addition to the Arch Namer, however, the Council has come to included the more extended disciplines taught at the school. Whilst some disciplines have seen the creation of new titles and heads of the respective school (such as Bladesinging), Chronurgy, Graviturgy, and War Magic are considered combination schools and a designated master is given responsibility based on seniority. Traditionally, the Arch Diviner would assume the role of deputy to the Chancellor, although this is a matter of convention as opposed to a formal rule.

Structure

The Council of Magi is divided into two groups, those who make up masters of the 8 wizardly schools together with the Arch Namer are known as the Arch Council, or Upper Council. They are ultimately responsible for the University's education standards and collectively appoint new members of staff. The Council of Masters, or Lower Council, number 5 masters responsible for the extra-disciplinary areas of study including bardic arts, bladesinging, artificery, and more widespread academia. When the councils sit together they are then known as the Council of Magi.

This is the larger of the two councils, consisting of 9 members. The table below lists the roles and their occupants in order of traditional seniority based on their primary title(s).
