Bhannachat

Bhannachat is one of the four nations in the Jade Republic, situated to the North of the Jade Sea. It is a magocracy centred around the Jadhra Academy, Dunyalem's premier arcane school. Bhannachat's class structure is tied to magical aptitude, with the highest class being those admitted into the academy. For most of its history, the academy was open only to yuan-ti, maintaining their positions as the rulers of Bhannachat. Following the formation of the Jade Republic, the Academy was made to open its doors to anyone able to pass the entry trials, regardless of species or nation. The Academy also has satellite schools across the Republic. Bhannachat is governed by the Archmage of the Jadhra Academy, appointed through a series of trials that take place when the previous Archmage dies. Theoretically open to anyone powerful enough, every Archmage thus far has been yuan-ti. The Archmage is responsible for ruling Bhannachat, representing the nation within the Jade Republic, and overseeing the work of the Jadhra Academy both in Bhannachat and beyond. They are usually considered one of, if not the most powerful mage in Dunyalem.
