Kenku

Kenku are small corvid humanoids originating from Keranov. Kenku all exhibit a unique quirk - they cannot speak in the traditional sense. Instead, they have the uncanny ability to perfectly mimic any speech and sounds that they hear. While most kenku can only mirror speech, a rare few are able to infuse a unique tone and personality to their voice.
Kenku spend their lives accumalting new language, with younger kenku having very limited vocabulary. It is common for kenku to travel far and wide in an effort to expand their language, and they can often be found in taverns and theatres, soaking up different cultures' stories.
The cause of the kenku's unique speech is a mystery. A common tale tells of the first kenku tricking a Keranovian hag out of her riches, and subsequently being cursed by her to lose their speech. More scientifically minded folk believe it was an evolutionary technique, allowing the small Kenku to remain hidden among the dangers of Keranov.
