Ebonford
Ebonford started as a small mining town near the capital city of Chronowatch. The small mining town quickly grew as veins of a very rare and valuable mineral Abysium was discovered. This glowing, blue-green substance is a source of great energy, but is dangerous to harvest, as those who spend extended amounts of time around it grow ill and die without proper precautions. Abysium fueled the technological expansion and drove Krausiss into the Steam Age.
The mining town expanding cutting a plateau out of the mountainside while expanding a deepening network of tunnels underground. Eventually the Abysium veins ran dry and a new site was further up the mountain was discovered and a new district plateau was carved from the mountain. This has continued after each plateau's veins ran dry causing the town to expand, its population to grow, and further industry and trade moving into the abandoned districts. Ebonford now sites as the second largest city within the Sutian Empire and the empires center of industry.
Districts
Ebonford's districts are as follows, starting at the highest/newest district and working down the mountain to the oldest:- The Abys: The active mining district has always named the Abys after the discovery of abysium. Above ground is many large warehouses to store the minerals mined from below. Below is the ever expanding network of tunnels in search of iron, gold, silver, and abysium.
- The Mud Market: Always moving with the Abys District, the Mud Market hosts everything needed by the miners of the Abys. Seedy tavern stores, general stores, food carts, and more can be found above ground along with housing for the more "affluent" miners. Below ground is a web of slums for those less fortunate. Old abysium veins are especially dangerous here.
- Smokespire: Named after the near constant plumes of black-grey smoke that emit from this district, Smokespire is the center of industry within the Sutian Empire. Above ground is a mixture of mass production factories and processing plants. Below ground the dwarven forges produce armor, weapons, and tools that are unmatched on all of Krausiss or Enteris.
- Oghmian District: Named after the ancient false deity of knowledge and invention. Within this plateau the artisan's and researchers of Ebonford are found. Artificers, alchemists, and tinkerers workshops and stores fill the district above and below. While Oghmist religion does not focus on centers of worship, many if its followers can be found within this district. Many botched "enhancements" have likely been preformed in the caves of the Oghmian District.
- Ironscript Ward: The Ironscript Ward hosts the bureaucracy of Ebonford, the central post of the Ironeyes; the police force of Ebonford, and housing for many of the commoners of Ebonford. ADVENTURERS (might be renamed) of the little renown can find quests at the GUILDHOUSE (might be renamed) within this district.
- Skywatch Ward: The skyscrapers of the Skywatch Ward are only dwarfed by Smokespire and house the wealthy elite of Ebonford. Visiting dignitaries and wealthy merchants will spend much of their time here and those of lower class are not permitted to exit the Abys Lift within this district. The lower portions of the Skywatch Ward are closed off and entrance into them is forbidden by law. Legendary adventurers who have been welcomed into the Skywatch Ward may visit the Allied Adventurers Accords Guildhouse within this district to experience its many perks.
- Unnamed District
- Unnamed District: Did I put to many districts on the map, maybe. Do I want to remake the map, no. Will everyone ignore these blank districts until they become relevant/named, hopefully.
- Green Quarter: Originally part of the Vaulter's Ward, the Green Quarter split into its own district when the fourth Abys District was created. Within the green quarter is where food and produce imported to Ebonford and produced at nearby farms can be found. Many of the best restaurants can be found here along with general craftsmen and tradespeople needed for a thriving city.
- Vaulter's Ward: Named after the many vaults that lie underground within this district, much of the empire's wealth can be found here. The many banks are in charge of processing incoming and outgoing products, ensuring that proper taxes are enforced and illegal goods are restricted.
Public Transportation
Winding through all of the districts is the Abys Lift. Initially, this cable cart lift was designed to take the extracted minerals down the mountain to the river. As the mining town expanded into a larger and larger city, the lift was modified to handle human passengers along with minerals. A single lift station can be found within each district that provides passengers access to the lift. Commonly, three styles of carts can be seen being carried by lift:- Production Carts: These large carts are designed to transfer a variety of products from base minerals to large mechanical parts. These carts are given the highest priority both due to the cities dependency on their economic value and the need to carefully balance and distribute the weight across the Abys Lift.
- Commoner Carts: These large subway like carts are designed to pack as many people as possible into a small and light space as possible. These carts are of lowest priority of processing on the lift.
- Sky Carts: These carts are designed for the wealthy elite of the Skywatch Ward to be able to travel in comfort and separate from Ebonford's commoners. Each cart includes comfortable seating for 4 to 10 nobles and a coachman to see to the occupant's needs. These carts of secondary priority after production carts.
