Dark-Arrow Keep
A citadel of crooked towers and twisted avenues, built into the crags of the Spine of the World. Dark Arrow Keep is the capital city of the Kingdom of Many-Arrows and the seat of power of the Obould Dynasty. The labyrinthine fortress-city is the product of a dozen orcish geniuses, each ostensibly building at the behest of King Obould, but also against their fellows. Together, these architects had built a wonder they would never recreate and Obould had them buried within the walls of his demesne.
The city is a nightmare for invaders and visitors alike, reflecting the orcish mindset of eternal conflict. Tall, sturdy walls of black basalt enclose the city, with hundreds of slit windows to pepper foes with arrows. It's streets arrayed in zig-zag formations designed to disorient, invading armies would have to fight for every inch forward into the city. Each dwelling is a miniature fortress, with an elaborate system of tunnels to ferry troops and supplies between.
Despite all this, Dark Arrow Keep is a living, breathing city, orcs are born, live and die here. They practice trades, sell wares and socialize, all in the typical orcish fashion, punctuated with violence.
Demographics
Dark-Arrow Keep is populated primarily by orcs and half-orcs, along with smaller populations of goblins, bugbears, humans and goliaths.
Defences
The genius of the orc is their ability to use every resource at their disposal to win a fight. The exterior walls of the keep are constructed like any other fortified settlement, providing safety and ease of attack to its defenders. The high walls also bristle with spikes bearing the remains of impaled foes, a unsubtle warning to invaders.
For all its substantial defenses to keep foes out, Dark-Arrow Keep is an open palm, ready to close tight and crush its enemies. It is equally designed to thwart enemy escape, for anyone foolish to attack Dark-Arrow Keep must contend with the thousands of orcish warriors who call it home.
Infrastructure
The entirety of Dark-Arrow Keep is hewn from the living stone of the Spine of the World. The outermost walls made of great blocks of black basalt that tower above the narrow, winding streets. It has a surprisingly well-developed sewer system, used to carry waste, but also serves to allow warriors easy passage to battles within the city.
Assets
Dark-Arrow Keep is a fortress, first and a city, second, it keeps enough stores of food, water and other necessities to endure a siege for years.
