Mellen the Plinker
Mellen is a neighborhood associate of Xion's, and grew up desiring to be a great smith but lacking a proper apprenticeship to become so because he is an orphan, an unusual half-race and caught between two societies. He hung around a nail-and-pin maker in the Dock ward for long enough that he was eventually taken on and given make-work to do to make him useful, and attempted to better his craft through trial and error during his nights and weekends. His dedication to this exhausted form of practice took him far enough that he eventually was able to transfer his apprenticeship to an artificer in the Gnome Quarter and create precision gears and parts for machines, though he would ordinarily be considered far too old for this position. He continued to work at night on what he saw as his true goal: fine weapons for valorous adventurers. Eventually, finally, he produced his first true work of art - a beautiful masterwork shortsword bought by Xion on the first day it was for sale. After a week of use, Xion commissioned a pair of daggers to match, and after another two weeks Xion came asking for a mace and armor for his sister, pouch of gold in hand. This influx of capital, combined with Xion's quiet spreading of the word of Mellen's skill, has resulted in such an influx of business inquiries that Mellen has suddenly found himself with enough contracts and capital to start his own smithery if he wishes, and is psychologically completely unprepared for the sudden opportunity to fully pursue his dreams.
