Secret Ingredient
Humming a jaunty tune to herself, Birdy removed the cork from a small clay flask. Tongue between her teeth, she tipped it over and poured off a small amount of the viscous oil into a pan and then replaced the flask between the slats of a rack, holding it upright.
"The oil worked great," she muttered to herself as she retrieved a small pouch from under her workbench, "but let's just add a special ingredient."
The pouch clinked with the sound of metal against metal as she upended it into the flask, the sharp caltrops plopping into the oil and sinking out of sight. The war wizard checked to make sure the oil had not overflowed before nodding and pulling out the pouch of ball bearings.
