The Grand Revel

6/20/19

Written by Ophidimancer

The Grand Revel was Fiego’s favorite holiday. It was an entire holiday devoted to love, joy, and beauty and Fiego looked forward to it all year. A full fiveday before the Grand Revel, Fiego was busy around his family's estate, recruiting the servants to tidy up and decorate for the holiday. He could often be found strumming along industrially as the furniture danced along to his tune, putting themselves in order as he directed. When the house was in order and tidy, he helped the household staff put up the festive ribbons, in all shades of red and gold, over doorways and windows. Then he sent a serving boy to the market for candies and flowers.   The days leading up to the Grand Revel were filed with festivities and Fiego made it his mission to brighten everyone's day. He handed sweets and flowers out to friends and family, chocolates and daisies for platonic loved ones and firemints and roses for beauties who caught his eye. Always he made sure to wish, "A joyous Revel to you!" as he did.   As the days waned, the bard changed from his usual garb to simpler robes of cream and gold, the trappings of the worship of Hanali Celanil, the elven goddess of love and beauty. With a ceremonial bowl of water he joined the priestesses of Sune as they blessed the people of Waterdeep. As the sun set to the west and turned the sea to gold, Fiego sang a traditional elven hymn of love, accepting gold coins in his bowl from passersby, to be donated to the temple.   Evenings during the Grand Revel were devoted to music, dancing, and carousing. The firewine flowed freely, followed by flirting and frolicking. Many a match was made or consummated during the balls thrown by the noble houses of Waterdeep. At a small gathering in the gardens of the De Gryphon estate, Fiego made sure that his friend, Tully, was given a chance to speak privately in a secluded corner of hedge with another guest. Fiego had heard about Jessyra from mutual acquaintances and had invited her to the party. It was the season for romance, after all.
