Shrax

Deep at the bottom of the Coral Bay, next to the city Baseg On, you might just find clusters of luminescent coral. Brightly colored and sparkled with silver, this plant has however not garnered renown for its beauty, but for its catalytic magical properties.
Some scholars even attribute the quick rise to power of Baseg On to this coral and its properties, since it is this discovery that has led to the innovations now characterizing the City of Progress.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Bio-luminescent and slightly warm to the touch, Shrax resembles a small underwater bush. Its branches are fragile and easily break apart, which makes its collection a speedy, but delicate process.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Mixed with metal or gem dust, Shrax can be used in spells and other incantations in a variety of ways, each depending on the material used. For example, gold dust mixed with Shrax will make any spell cast on an object permanent, whereas ruby dust will allow the caster to add a trigger to the desired effect.

History & Usage

Discovery

The mines of Baseg On are not endless, and when extraction started dwindling, some miner companies sent divers underwater in the hope of finding metal in the sea-floor. Instead, they found this bright plant which, upon further experimentation, revealed its unsettling powerful effects.

Refinement

Shrax is extremely friable and, in order to extract its effects properly, it must be crushed into a dust and mixed other metal or gem dust, depending on the desired effect.

Manufacturing & Products

It has become a major arcane component in tamynian inventions, to the point where every established arcanist and artificer usually possesses a few branches of Shrax.

Byproducts & Sideproducts

Some black market traders have managed to get their hands on Shrax and developed and sold a hallucinogenic substance nicknamed "Muze".
