Usurpers

The Usurpers were once the Pantheon of Duvrin, although, then, they were known by other names. These entities, who were central to life in Duvrin for numerous centuries, bore the appearance of merciful divinity in order to control and manipulate the puny ants that were Mortals, their subjects. By the turn of the 13th century of what is now known as the Fallen Aeon, the true nature of these creatures was discovered by a group of sages and erudites.   Quickly, plans were divised to escape from the clutches of these deceitful entities. Though they could not be killed, they could be imprisoned, banished or rendered harmless. Artifacts and knowledge were collected, warriors were trained, and cities were reinforced. It was truly a feat of strenght and a testament to Mortals' capabilities that this battle against divinity did not end in complete anhilation. But in the end, the entities were Banished across planes of existence or incapacitated, and the Material Plane of Duvrin was freed of their power.    Following the Banishment, nations and societies fell into disarray or struggled to adapt to life without the existential comfort of divinity, but time healed some scars, and history moved along, slowly rebuilding civilizations. The Gods were to be forgotten; labeled as the Usurpers, and relegates to the shadows of time. The ancient holy language, Eroilin, grew rarer and eventually died out as temples and holy sites were leveled or converted to other uses. The traces of divinity in this world were one by one leveled in an attempt to symbolicly erase any power it might still hold over Mortals.

Mythology & Lore

The once Pantheon of Duvrin was composed of seven deities ruling over their own domains. These divinities were usually composed of parallel facets, representing the duality of experiences and lives. An individual could worship any deity, some more appreciated than others in some parts of the world, though profession and family were often key in their choice. These deities were visually represented with symbols or humanoid forms, and temples all around Duvrin were their main places of worship. They also served as gift-givers for clerics, holy healers whose very powers came from their devotion to these deities.
