A letter to Sire Grey
Dear Sire Grey,
I am unsure on how to begin this letter and uncertain what words might stir your heart to read on rather than throwing it into the fire. My name is Volatia Oleander, my father is Balocrypha. I understand that you are attempting to organize all of the factions to fight under one banner. I would very much like to join you in this.
At the moment, I am a member of the Morninglight Company and while many of my fellow members have signed on as Dalvath Special Forces, I have not. I am Cryphan and not supportive of any foreign power that wishes to colonize our home and divide it. Regardless of their affiliation, I will not be leaving them because I have tasks given to me by The Divine Suffering that I must accomplish. These things are important for the liberation of our people, their happiness, and I will see them done before I part ways with the company and my friends.
I spoke with Rylan, here in The Iron Hills, at some length and he apprised me of the plans for governance once the war is over. Until Rylan explained them to me, I very much wanted to take my father’s crown from him. Now, I am conflicted. For a personal reason, I still covet it… but not at the cost of the happiness of the people and as much as it aches, I have learned that sometimes I must give up the things I desire for the greater good.
I know that it will take time for you to trust in what I say and I hope that as you hear of my deeds, I will earn your respect and the privilege of fighting at your side for my people. If there is anything I can do for you and the cause, please let me know.
~Volatia Oleander
Postscript – When the beast has been banished and his spirit scattered, I will feel no joy at his passing. I will only feel peace.
