Entry 13: A Letter to Iris

Dearest Iris,
Is it terrible that I call you Iris even though it isn't your true name? I feel like it's the name you chose and it's the one I associate with you as being my dear friend. If you'd wanted me to use another, you would have told me, wouldn't you? I feel like you would. Like you wouldn't have let me keep calling you a name you despised or didn't fit you. I feel like Iris fits the friend I know and love even now.
We had to move again. This time it was all my fault or, I suppose, the fault of my runes. They're so dangerous that the Justicar, Vrinn and Phaedra's father, was sent to kill me. I am happy that he decided not to and very grateful that he offered the company sanctuary at Lux Brumalis. We've been here two days now and I am still jumping at shadows and strange noises.
I miss you. I failed you. I should have flown up to the top of the tower, taken that woman's blows myself, and dealt them back double. I remember her... from before I ran away. I remember her face and will carry it in fury for as long as I live. I promise you that I will rip her throat as she did yours and I will look into her eyes until their light goes out.
I remember when you told me you were a deception, I didn't understand what you'd meant. You were so upset when you told me, I just wanted to make you feel better. I understand now... that you were created by the Titan and given life. In my heart, I would like to believe that you were created just for me. To be my friend when I lied to the world about what I am. That's when you came into my life, when I was so alone... and you stayed.
I am going to honor the Titan and you by telling one lie every day for the rest of my life.
