House: Obsidian Peace Holly Lowal is a silver-haired orphan from the Elemental Isles invited to the Morninglight Academy. Displeased that her magic has been different for her than the naturally-occurring elemental adepts around her and from the magic that comes from academic study as well, Holly frequently tries to hide, downplay or forget about her innate magical gifts, to no avail. When introduced to the school, the usual society interests to a mage student (Scarlet Seal and Intrepidus Eye) did not appeal to her and for her introductory line that the houses would pick her based on, she panicked and said she was "a wizard who would never be seen bearing a spellbook" (to offended muttering from the mage houses). She became one of the earlier picks of Obsidian Peace in the ensuing draft, where she's been training in stealth arts ever since. She doesn't have the Society knowledge to know that they are training assassins, but it's starting to become clearer. Still repelled by mage study, she's instead committed to using her spells to illusions and undetectability alongside her peers. Holly has an anonymous pen pal who sends her care packages frequently. She tries to send handcrafted presents of her own back.
