Other Survivors - 12/35
The Morninglight Company is officially founded now. While we were attempting to get our feet under ourselves around what should be done next in terms of direction, alarm bells rang out in the church.
Haven-seekers fled into town, pursued by vampires. They were other escapees from the Star Strider. A performer, elven, named Mercedes, and her entourage. Saint Lydia tasked us to guard the gates... and when we stepped out of town, it turned out that the vampires in pursuit were looking for us, as well.
It was a fight we hardly won, between the power of the vampires and dhampir set upon us as much as their direwolves. Ed was picked up like one of the wolves like a chew-toy, and he was nearly destroyed with the way that thing shook him about. Evan charged ahead to attempt to deal with the vampires directly, and was nearly destroyed for it, too. I managed to shoot down the vampire who attempted to drag them off, and Pandora dispatched the sole escapee that would have left with word of the fight and our level of prowess, but many of us were injured. Mercedes proved an interesting ally, using her voice to aid us.
Ed I was able to get put back together once we were given quarters for long-term stay, but things between him and I still aren't the best. In the assignment of new rooms, he was offered a place with Pandora, Iris, and Volatia-- and he accepted. The house we finally accepted because Saint Lydia asked us to stay for an extended period to ensure safety of the town, and to ensure that things would calm down some ahead of our travel. When I pointed out we were likely to bring her trouble by continuing to stay, owing to the bounties on our heads, she proposed use of a spell that will make it look as though one of us are dead. It was all but insisted that it be me. I just... well...
That was yesterday, though. Today, I was nominated and confirmed to being the leader of the Morninglight Company.
I have a responsibility to shoulder now, greater with each passing day as I gain more understanding of it. Saint Lydia shared with me that her blessing, apart from the power found in the actual relic, is one that is small now but will continue to grow. It will take my devotion to fully unlock it and strengthen it. Devotion to the cause I pledged myself, whether I meant to or not. Every time I look down at the marking on my palm, I wonder what it will take. Do I become as quietly and passionately devoted as Vrinn? Or will something less suffice?
I don't know. I'll have to find out. And knowing... how well I do with religion to begin with, I can't help but hope these powers might develop through action rather than just... belief.
There's a vote ongoing now for Second. I'm placing my mark with Pandora Silver, as I think her wisdom will help guide us on a path that sees us all home safely and as quickly as possible. If there's someone to trust with confronting and understanding the history we'll need to uncover to help us on our quest, it's her. If there's someone to trust to do what's necessary to achieve our goals and prioritize the safety of the other royals here ... it's her.
When she and I finally get the chance to sit down over a drink, perhaps I can ask for her assistance in convincing the others to cross the border when we finally near it. Outside aid would turn the tide of this war should we be able to get it. Even if I can't cross-- no matter whether it's because the world believes me dead, or because I simply cannot-- they definitely should. It'd be best for our goals-- best for Crypha.
