Salauh
DnD: Mythling
A species of sapient humanoid amphibians native to the inner coastal region of Vacruss' southern arm. They have a few variations, with aquatic or terrestrial features becoming dominant based on how far from the water they grow up.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Those who are raised mostly in the warm waters off the coast or in ponds retain their external gills as distinctive head frills, even after reaching maturity and spending more time on land, with webbed tails clearly adept for swimming. Meanwhile, those raised mostly on land gradually lose those features, instead gaining adhesive or even toxic skin oils that aid in climbing or protecting against predators respectively. Across the species their coloration can vary wildly, though the terrestrial types tend towards a mix of dark patterns and brightly colored spots.
Civilization and Culture
Naming Traditions
Salauh familiar names are notoriously difficult for other races to pronounce, with guttural and croaking sounds. The ones who venture out to mingle rather adopt nicknames given to them by their acquaintances.
Gender Ideals
The Salauh are universally intersex, though individuals who are more integrated with the other societies have been observed to pick up styles some would consider "masculine" or "femimine". However, generally speaking there are no defined "gender roles" among the Salauh.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Aquatic Salauh are typically very friendly and curious; expressions of their supposed lower maturity than their terrestrial cousins, who are instead more cautious and prudent.
