Spiritual Electors of Vacruss
The Sphinxes of Coronation
Legends tell that not long after the continent of Vacruss was settled, an intense glow was spotted atop the peak of the island at its center. Two individuals returned from investigating the light, and set to work uniting the towns and villages of the continent into a singular nation, divinely gifted the boon to lead. Upon their deaths the glow appeared again, to once again be investigated and vanish when replacement monarchs returned from the island, found worthy to take up the mantle. Since the begining, the royal crest and emblem of the nation has been a pair of sphinxes encircling each other.
The Fourth King of Vacruss was not so tight-lipped as his predecessors nor successors, and perhaps that is why his reign was the shortest. He proudly proclaimed that his right to rule was reward for his fearlessness, and bestowed upon him by a powerful winged creature sent by the gods to identify only those who are worthy. That same blind courage and brash attitude would later be his literal downfall, as he recklessly sought out thrills rather than lead his people. He was also rumored to be very frequently intoxicated, so many were unsure if his tale was wholly honest or a drunken misinterpretation of events. But with his proclamation, word quickly spread about the sphinxes who called Vacruss home.
