The Nihilint Expanse

A boundless emptiness of gray with no discernible source of illumination, existing outside the constraints of spacetime. The only things ostensibly present are portals of swirling energy which connect to parts of other planes and dimensions. A very faint, low hum reverberates ceaselessly from these vortices. Matter does not naturally exist in the Expanse, and any which manages to pierce it is inevitably pulled into one of the portals and expelled; only the essence of souls and raw magic energy can remain there. One’s consciousness can be projected into the Expanse, but must have an anchor to focus on in order to return to its own time and physical space, else it be stranded in the nothingness. Those minds which have been lost within the sea of gray persist for untold eons, potentially breaking or warping in newfound insanity as they are bombarded with white noise for eternity…

Localized Phenomena

Inner and Outer - the portals out of the Nihilint Expanse are all clustered fairly near each other. This area is considered the “inner expanse”, while everywhere beyond the furthest portals is considered the “outer expanse”

Fauna & Flora

Thought Eaters - some ancient entities trapped within the expanse have adapted into bizarre hunters, floating through the void and snatching up younger minds to consume. They are seemingly repelled by the various portals, so rarely venture into the Inner Expanse. If you spot one, your best defense is to concentrate and return to your body immediately. If one sees you, it may already be too late.
