Raptor of Fire

Tiala raised her sword and plunged it into the beast's chest. Instead of blood, viscous lava dripped from its throat down its tongue before it collapsed. Tiala picked up a stray branch of an obsidian root, sharpened one end a little and dipped the staff in the blood of the carcass. Then she used the blood to carve a sun with radiant flames into her skin above her left ankle.

- Legends of Layida, book -

The Fire Raptor once lived on Layida at the end of the Age of Creation. It is said to have arisen from the fires of the volcanoes themselves and the Layikani consider it to be the most dangerous predator to ever inhabit the Fire Continent. In some areas the firewalkers found huge footprints and skeletons attributed to this monster. Of course, there are some legends about the demise of this species, which is believed to have stalked its victims in order to strike at just the right moment. In one myth, Tiala of Halibiki is said to have dealt a death blow to a raptor with her Sword of glowing Lava and had a tattoo burned onto her skin with its fiery blood.
