Molten rain Spell in Eacatis | World Anvil

Molten rain

I wouldn't call it dangerous, as long as you are not standing beneath it.

- Wizard

Effect

A red cloud appears in the shape of a cylinder that is 3 meters tall and has a radius of 3 meters, centred on a point you can see 21 meters directly above you. The spell fails if you can't see the point in the air where the cloud could appear (for example if you are in a room that can't accommodate the cloud).

When you cast the spell a rain of molten metal starts falling onto the creatures covered by the cloud. Each creature must make a dexterity saving throw. A creature takes 3d8 fire damage on a failed save, or half as much on a successful one. On each of your turns until the spell ends you can use your action to call down molten rain in this way again.

At higher levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher level, the damage increases by 1d8 for each slot above 3rd.

Side/Secondary Effects

As long as the ground does not quickly cool the melt as it lands, the floor will at the end of the time be covered in a thin sheet of metal.

Discovery

A wizard was once asked to help a blacksmith cover a road with thin metal sheets. Instead of using his magic to speed the metal sheet production up, the wizard decided to modify the Call lightning that he knew in order to conjure a rain of molten metal instead. This was met with success, and the wizard managed to speed up the task by a significant margin.
