The Church of Artia

Offer prayers to Artia, and her light will shield thee   Artia is the Goddess of light and the main religion of the eastern land mass of Ealathra.

Mythology & Lore

None is more powerful than the divine light of the sun. Artia has been around since the dawn of time but she only became the subject of divine worship when the concept of gods was introduced to the realm. Her relationship with the earlier races was much more spiritual in nature more of a hands-on motherly approach after the sealing of her brother she became more distant for the safety of mortals.

Divine Origins

Artia is one of the three main Primordial gods as in the beginning there was only Light, Darkness and Death. Artia saw the potential for life and nourished it by providing warmth and light. Her twin Emos grew jealous of this attention and began to corrupt all life it saw, As life began to flourish their belief brought about more gods that by working with Artia sealed away Emos into the dark void of space.

Cosmological Views

Gods are beings of unimaginable energy that lat themselves to the beliefs of mortals. The faith of mortals provides a deity with not only power but the purpose. Gods can have many forms and they change them frequently. Once they have attached themself to a domain that enough mortals believe in they assume their role. For example, the divine entities might assume their place in the domain of fine cooking and win now any faith within the psychical planes tied to that domain fuels that god. Any being of raw power that does not assume godhood runs the risk of being consumed by other more powerful beings or dissipating back into raw unintelligent energy.   Artia is one of the 3 primordial gods and has existed since the beginning of time.

Tenets of Faith

Artia's portfolio includes peace, endurance, birth, renewal, joy, healing, self-improvement, fertility, family/community, and survival. She blesses those that bring life and destroys the undead.   Healers and birthing mothers worship her. An order of life clerics known as the Dawnbringers follow her. Her temples tend to function as hospitals and places of healing.   Services held in the morning honour her. Funerals, among his followers, are held at dusk and are followed by a wake that lasts until dawn.

Titles used by Dawnbringers (in ascending order) were: Dawngreeter, Dawnlord, High Dawnlord, Dawnmaster, Morninglord, High Morninglord, Mornmaster, High Mornmaster, and Sunrise Lord. Speciality priests were also known as morninglords. All followers were required to be neutral to good alignment.   All of Artia's clergy respected art, liberty, nature, and culture; promoted betterment of oneself; and strove to bring hope to their followers and others. Many of these followers worked in various creative arts. They were intolerant of evil, especially undead and inaction that caused evil to prosper. Most ceremonies of Artia were held at dawn and actions and contracts agreed to at sunrise were said to be blessed by her.
