Niccara

The peninsula of Indice is famous - or rather infamous - for its assassins. Ruled by a delicate balance of lords, dukes, counts and merchants, Indice has become a blooming industry for any form of assassination, from the subtlest to the most extreme. This has led to the most extraordinary culinary customs on the entirety of Eam'Rel, since poisons at dinner is something that can happen at any time.   It started with the nobility, but it is now the custom among all Indici, that no two people in a household can eat the same food or drink the same wine at the same sitting. Instead, it is tradition that even at the fanciest dinners of the aristocracy, some of the food will have been prepared two or three days before. Furthermore, as soon as the plates are served, people play a game of niccara - a quick game of dice - which determines who will eat which food, and who will drink from which wine. It is not allowed to change your plate after that, and you must either eat it, or remain hungry. Of course, it is viewed as very impolite to not eat at least part of your food, and if anyone refuses to eat or drink altogether, it is considered as very suspicious.   However, the niccara custom does not end there. Every morning, a niccara game decides where the family will do their shopping for their food, and one must never shop from the same supplier twice in a row. On every meal of the aristocracy, a niccara game decides which wines will be opened, and which plates, glasses and cutlery will be used. Of course this habit has not made an appearance to the lower classes, but - then again - it is a rare thing that they will ever be targeted by assassins.
