astomi

Astomi are an ancient, almost legendary, humanoid species appearing very similar to humans. They are known for their rough bodies and lack of mouths. Astomi reside solely in the Hollow, deep underground.

It is unknown how astomi procreate.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Astomi survive through unknown means. Due to their lack of mouths, it is unknown how they eat, although presumably they do somehow. Even more perplexingly, astomi do not sleep or rest.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Astomi have only been seen near entrances to the Hollow, and so presumably live only therein. The cave system of Cruachan is notable for having been the site of a number of astomi sightings. Interestingly, the Salamanca School, residing deep in the Mammoth Caves, reports no sightings of Astomi.

It is unknown whether the astomi have a concept of gender or gendered forms or customs.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Astomi have no known written or spoken language. Some scholars believe that they communicate telepathically, or form some kind of hive mind, but these theories remain unproven.
