The muppetborn are a species thought to have originated in the Dreaming, based on their odd, almost inorganic attributes. They are considered chaotic in relationship to species residing on the material plane, but it is likely such chaos is simply an attempt to adjust to the uncertain conditions of the Dreaming.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Muppetborn appear as felt creatures, usually in the forms of monsters or beasts. Muppetborn have been known to take on the appearance of frogs, pigs, bears, dogs, rats, humans, chickens, eagles, automatons, rabbits, weasels, and even elephants. It is unknown if there are truly any limits on what forms muppetborn can take.
Interestingly, no matter how an individual attempts to view a muppetborn, their bottom half is always out of view. It has been said that when one stands in the middle of an empty field, the earth itself will rise up to meet them.

Genetics and Reproduction

Muppetborn reproduction is unknown. Because of their supposed origination in the Dreaming, it is possible that they are merely thought-forms, born out of the very dreams of mortals, although this has never been outright confirmed.
Muppetborn eggs have been seen, but it is not known how they are created or if all muppetborn originate from such eggs. Their eggs appear as normal, round balls of felt. It is said that this felt is then woven into the muppetborn's final appearance, although this mechanism is unknown. It is likely that weavers, such as dreamweavers, know more of this process given their proclivities toward the weaving of the fabric of reality, but they have never spoken on the matter. Some have even suggested that muppetborn are the material manifestations of eldritch creatures or abominations from other dimensions.
Once birthed from an egg, muppetborn are fully adults, being able to speak and with general knowledge of existence, but they have no explanation for such things.

Growth Rate & Stages

Muppetborn do not grow in size or have life stages, unless the fabric that makes up their bodies is destroyed, in which case it must manually be replaced.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Muppetborn need to eat, as most other beings, but they do not need to swallow the food, as they have no digestive tract. They can simply absorb the energy from food by having it ever so briefly in their mouths.

Biological Cycle

Muppetborn tend to live as long as their felt can be replaced, living anywhere from 60 to 300 years.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

There is no distinct geographic distribution of muppetborn, although they tend to appear in cities or other inhabited areas most frequently.

Civilization and Culture

Major Organizations

Some muppetborn organize into small clans in urban areas, known colloquially among other species as "streets". These areas are usually extremely safe, as if the muppetborn themselves affect the physical reality around them when gathered en masse. However, many other sapient species find these areas difficult to stay in for extended periods of time, and it is not long until a "street" will be nearly entirely muppeborn.
Most muppetborn belong to a loose, unorganized, spiritual tradition known as the Hand, speaking of how within each muppetborn has a "Hand" inside them, a force which is said to guide their actions and speech.

Beauty Ideals

Muppetborn have no need for beauty ideals of any kind, with all muppetborn being considered equal regardless of appearance and without all form of social hierarchy, formed based on beauty or any other quality.

Gender Ideals

As muppetborn reproduction is mostly an unknown, so too is any relationship they have to gender. Although muppetborn pronoun usage is varied and some identify as male or female, most muppetborn identify themselves as nonbinary, agender, or genderless.

Muppetborn do not pursue any known form of courtship.

Relationship Ideals

Muppetborn do not engage in any known form of romantic relationships, but they do form close bonds of friendship both with other muppetborn and species of the material plane, both sapient and nonsapient.

Average Technological Level

While muppetborn can use technology and seem to know how it functions almost reflexively, they do not appear to use much of it themselves, having no need for it.

Common Dress Code

Most muppetborn do not wear clothing, usually do to their thick fur covering most of their bodies. However, some muppetborn do wear clothing that seems to be almost an extension of their body. They never appear to take it off or put it on, the same outfits are simply present every time, and always kept impeccably clean.
