Quest for Knowledge and the Curse of Mortality (Backstory)
I'll tidy this up later, but this is my backstory in a nutshell:
bookseller in new york
not a large shop, just a modest but successful shop
member of a local sci-fi book club.
interst there is that he will feel short-changed if there isn't more to life than what he's experiencing and knows of so far
book club meets twice a month in the winter, monthly the rest of the year
guy in a beat up yellow jacket shows up after a few sessions
guy is mostly quiet
guy talks in stifled sentences - not conversational english or anything, it's almost like he's repeating prose
guy shows up to 2 or 3 sessions before he shows up at the bookshop
guy approaches the counter, puts a worn yellow leather book on it
begins to mumble and the book opens
irridescent purple comes out from between the pages
i go unconscious
next thing i know, he's gone and there is this page on the counter
it's not written in english or latin, fuck if i know
i can't read it but an idea becomes understood in my brain, like - I just know the thing.
the idea is "knowledge in arkham - book - seek church" and an image of the symbol of the church of contemplation
page is now blank but i carry it with me
comes to arkham and is asking around about the church
cops aren't helpful
public records are scant
asks other church elders and finally has a lead on the former location
finds the symbol on the rubble but no book inside
while asking a church official just down the road, they mention another group asking about it recently and describe Bernadette
