Credit
Credits refer to an anonymised cryptocurrency often used by Operatives. The currency is shrouded in mystery, and unknown to most people outside the shadowy world it is mainly used in. The original creator or creators of credits are unknown, but the usage of the currency began in the 2040s. The currency is equal parts the currency itself, and what it can purchase. Since it almost entirely remains within the Operative sphere, those who receive it as payment for goods or services know they can exchange it for highly valuable services rendered by Operatives and their agencies - intelligence gathering, sabotage, or even assassination.
Like most currencies and all cryptocurrencies, credits are entirely digital. They are typically paid out through an app on a phone, which is highly secure. However, even that isn't enough for some people. Special credit "chits" are made with a small onboard hard drive that can store credits - essentially a USB drive. However, a counter on the side displays the exact amount present within. This physical device further enhances security by eliminating networks from the transaction.
Credits are analagous to but separate from other currencies. There is no official exchange rate. Instead, items are priced depending on how difficult they are to acquire, since many of the items are illegal or in a legal grey area. Operative agencies sometimes offer to convert credits to other currencies, but their rates are highly variable. Instead, most people opt to keep their credits in the system, since Operatives cannot be paid with other currencies, and it's hard to aquire credits in the first place.
