Genetic Monstrosities

Genetic monstrosities are constructed life forms that are often large and dangerous. Originally an urban legend, they were described to be large, omnivorous creatures that inhabited the sewers of the world. Until the late 2050s, they were considered to be complete myths. However, a string of disappearances in Mumbai, India, in 2058 led to a police raid on an unlicensed research lab - where several creatures, described as "abominations" were found in growing tanks. Several of the creatures had already escaped, and by the time they were eliminated three weeks later, had created a body count of dozens.

These creatures have very little in the way of similar features, instead being specificaly created for a purpose. Most often, they are grown to provide spare organs for humans, and die of various causes after a short period of time. However, some are instead created for combat purposes. They often feature high metabolisms, powerful jaws, razor sharp teeth and claws, and bullet-resistant hide. In one instance, security forces from Tactical Risk Management resorted to using an autocannon from an armoured personnel carrier to bring one down. Fortunately, these heavily armoured variants are rare, and do not live longer than a few days.

The technology used to create genetic monstrosities originates with Simulated Prehistoric Lifeform. As prehistoric creatures were being recreated as facsimilies, studies were made into creating entirely new forms of life. These studies bore fruit, but the creation of brand new life was soon quickly regulated by international treaties on ethical grounds. As such, most genetic monstrosities are created in underground labs where international law has no bearing.
