Divinity

Divine Sparks

While gods and godhood encompass all creatures that receive worship and prayer from other creatures, a deity is defined as a creature that has attained Divinity by obtaining a Divine Spark, which are known to have two major functions. Divine Sparks are known to be created spontaneously by creature's with powerful souls, but very little is known about this process and what criteria must be met in order for this to occur. It is more common to induce their creation through the Rites of Divinity. The first function is to identify itself with an Ideal, otherwise known as their domain. Ideals range in scope, with Higher Ideals, such as Gemini's Ideal of Communication, identifying a creature with entire concepts, while Lower/Minor Ideals, such as Crux's Ideal of the Frontier .Multiple beings can have the same ideal, but represent distinct aspects of that ideal, with broader aspects of an ideal being more powerful than more specific ones. The second major function of a divine spark is to allow the being containing the spark to gain power from the worship, faith, and practice of the Ideal it represents. This is the main function that allows deities to become as powerful as they are known to be.

The Rites of Divinity

During the Dawn War, the Zodiac and Prime Material Plane were facing the threat of destruction at the hand of the Chuj'il; the combined forces of Obyrinth and the Primordials that had joined them. Although some members of the Zodiac, notably Aries and Pisces, had ascended to deities, their souls spontaneously gaining the ability to gain power from worship, not all of them had. Without a divine spark, most members of the Zodiac and the Constellations as a whole could not hope to challenge their most powerful enemies. Famously designed by Aquarius, the Rites of Divinity was a trial created that allowed a soul to ascend and gain a divine spark. Many gods underwent the rites, and their newfound ability allowed them to effectively fight back. The exact nature of the Rites is a closely held secret, and it is not known which of the Gods truly know what they entail. Had the Chuj'il discovered the rites and gained divine sparks themselves, it is likely that the Dawn War would have been lost.
