The Gamma Detonation
Synopsis
The Nemesis Outbreak that occurred at the Avengers' Mansion is what led to this showdown. (See that article for full details).
Enraged and pushed to his limits, Gamma Lance utilized Teccat's body to punch a hole through the first basement, ground floor, and first floor roof. In this fit of rage, he then utilized the momentum and directed a ram attack back down towards his fiancé. The resulting collision created a massive detonation of gamma energy that decimated nearly nine blocks of New York realty. An additional two mile radius was affected by the gamma radiation that was released.
The act resulted in the end of the immediate conflict between the escaped Nemesis and the Honorary Avengers. Zarola (the Light of Anunnaki) and Hawkeye (Clint Barton) suffered massive injuries that included a near-death experience from the latter. Gamma Lance recovered quickly, but not before S.H.I.E.L.D. swooped in and contained the scene.
In the wake of the destruction, the Adversary appeared. He prevented an casualties that occured, but did not reverse the destruction. As a result, countless New York citizens were mutated by gamma radiation. This led to a massive influx of gamma mutates in the New York region.
The Conflict
Prelude
The Nemesis Outbreak was the precursor to this event and the Gamma Detonation was the result of the Honorary Avenger Gamma Lance being taken to his limits.
The conflict between Gamma Lance and his fiance Zarola (The Light of Anunnaki) escalated to epic proportions and the gamma-powered entity lost control of his faculties.
Battlefield
The Avengers' Mansion's courtyard and front foyer act as the battlefield for this travesty. In addition, a total of nine city blocks were affected by the blast radius, with nearly a two mile fallout zone.
Outcome
Gamma Lance's detonation effectively ended the conflict between the escaping Nemesis and the Honorary Avengers. After the smoke settled, nine city blocks were destroyed by the impact and another two mile radius was affected by the gamma radiation fallout.
Zarola and Gamma Lance (along with many of the other surviving Nemesis) were taken into SHIELD custody. They were placed under careful supervision and required to take rehabilitation classes, but were allowed to continue to participate in the Honorary Avengers program.
