Omnisuit

Stretchy, breathable, and able to stop knives and bullets, the Omnisuit is more than just work equipment, it's a fashion statement. OK, that was clearly advertisement , but it is also true, except for being breathable, stretchy, or stopping weaponry. Those depend on the model.   With several base configurations including arctic insulation, wetsuits, and pressure suits, this outfit can be customized for everything from deep sea to deep space environments and everything in between.   Anyone who does anything in a slightly harsh environment will likely have at least a basic suit. Unbeknownst to most of society though, are several classes of superior suits, the stuff of legends and or nightmares.

Utility

Omnisuits were named partially because of the number of use cases for them. Be it scientific, deep sea, or space research, law enforcement, or search and rescue, there's a version compatible with the job.   Unfortunately, the number of use cases and ease of access to the civilian versions also make them great tools for those with less humanitarian reasons in mind. Should a ner-do-well get a hold of a higher-grade suit, they would essentially become akin to a superhero. Of course, the police have a few high-grade units as well, so the ensuing battles are quite entertaining to watch... from a safe distance.

Social Impact

Feelings of safety usually run higher amongst wearers, unless they have a variant without a helmet, which is most of them. Unfortunately, in the early days of civilian adoption, there were instances of people going beyond the limits of humanity, thinking that the suit was like wearable superpowers. There were several deaths and injuries related to this, all determined to be user error.
Access & Availability
Simple variants of omnisuits are available for the masses. They are particularly popular with law enforcement, first responders, and on jobs in which hazard pay is a thing.
Complexity
Basic model omnisuits are generally something like arctic/wetsuit and/or armor crossovers. They are fairly simple in their construction. It's the higher grade omnisuits that are complex, and significantly more difficult, and more expensive to produce.   Higher configurations include everything from micro missiles to jet boosters. The complexity skyrockets when power systems and circuitry come into play.
Discovery
Omnisuits have been a long time coming. They were adapted from everything they could encompass, such as space suits, diving suits, arctic clothing, and body armor. It just took some creativity to cross domains and still keep other functions relatively in-tact.
