Akane Tree

One of the more widespread fruit trees, and one of the hardiest surviving fruit trees that survivors have access to. The Akane tree is a staple of nearly every settlement in the Boston Commonwealth struggling to survive in the nuclear wasteland. The Akane tree though hardy is almost unseen further West. Though it has grown in the capitol and some regions of the West, it is fairly uncommon. This is caused by the lack of communication or trade between the survivors.
The tree produces year round, one of the reasons it is so well liked throughout Settlements as it is a near constant supply of food. Though Akane tree's do not grow to be massive they are generally when fully grown just taller than the average person. At an average of 6' the tree's take a little over 2 years to mature to the point of bearing enough fruit to be considered a worthwhile crop in the settlement. This is the only drawback of the Akane tree's compared to more seasonal vegetables or fruits that some settlements struggle to survive on.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The tree's are generally small, with light colored bark. The fruit is altered and mutated far past what it was before the bombs fell. Wild versions of it tend to be slightly more irradiated than the versions planted and grown within settlements. The fruit looks similar to a pre-war apple but is purple in color.

Ecology and Habitats

The Akane tree is a hardy plant. Growing anywhere there is enough soil and water to support it. It has been found in multiple places, even the ruins of pre-war buildings and along the edges of irradiated lakes. Akane tree's can generally be grown fairly close together and grow to be just above the height of the average person.

Conservation Status
Though not technically under protection there are few out there willing to destroy any of these small and hardy tree's. Even raiders have a tendency to leave the tree's standing when burning the settlement around it.
