Chalyceratops

Chalyceratops seradorsus

Chalyceratops is a 3-5 meter long species of tough, mountain-dwelling, almost Chasmosaurus-like ceratopsid from Skull Island. Grazing the borders of the jungle, where it gives way into scree and rock, the Chalyceratops, a hard headed ceratopsian, eats subalpine vegetation but avoids the thick forest. Chalyceratopses are rare, but the clash of their gladiatorial contests in the breeding season ring throughout the upland regions. Males will joust and butt violently to secure a harem of females. Their fights are among the most brutal of any ceratopsian species, with frequent fatalities and injuries. Most bulls bear extensive scarring and broken or damaged horn arrays. Chalyceratops attempt to avoid other herbivore species to avoid direct competition for food but this isn’t always possible due to the nature of many of the migrating herbivores on the island (Example: Photo taken of a grumpy male Chalyceratops visited by a migrating herd of Brotosaurus and Ferrucutus). Due to their similarities, Chalyceratops are occasionally killed by rampaging Ferrucutus pumped full of testosterone during their breeding season, mistaking them for rivals.
