Holy Tiger

Icarus tigris

The Holy Tiger is an extremely rare feline predator with white fur with black stripes that transition to red the closer they are to the front of the animal, that stalks the plains and surrounding jungles of Skull Island. The Holy Tiger is larger than any feline species on earth, being nearly 5 meters long, 2 meters tall and weighs nearly a ton. Both males and females possess large saber teeth, study of their skulls show that unlike the saber-tooths of prehistory, the Holy Tigers sabers are far more sturdy, being completely fused to the skull itself, the teeth are still used to pierce the windpipe of large prey animals but can be used in combat as well. The most unique feature of the Holy Tiger are the antlers found only on adult males, much like buck deers, males choose to use the antlers to settle disputes to avoid fatal injury. The antlers are easily broken in these fights but quickly grow back in a few months. The hunting style of the Holy Tiger is complex, solitary individuals will approach their selected prey in a zigzagging manner, even if spotted the patterns on the tiger mixed with the jagged light created by the canopy will make it hard for prey to identify what they are looking at until it is too late. Mated pairs will hunt in a similar fashion but while one tiger distracts the prey, the other will ambush it. Females give birth to 2-3 cubs, but high mortality rate due to the immense number of large carnivores means that an entire generation of cubs don’t make it to adulthood. Holy Tigers are considered critically endangered, the loss of most of Skull Island’s land mass and the density of larger saurian carnivores has pushed Skull Island’s largest mammalian predator to the brink.
