Kong
Megaprimatus kong
Standing at the top of the Skull Island food chain, Kong is king of his world. The unique hypercane surrounding the island has cut him and his kind off from the rest of the world and the hyperfauna ecosystem, allowing them to take the status of apex kaiju in this microcosm. Originating in the Hollow Earth, megaprimatus kong was an advanced species compared to other kaiju, with ancient ruins found on several Vernean continents built by the kongs. Iwi mythology as well as physical evidence in the Hollow Earth explains that sometime in the past, the kongs were forced out of the cavern by Dagon and his kind during a massive conflict. The intelligence of Kong himself is unquestioned, although he was orphaned shortly after being born and thus was unable to be taught by his parents. Despite this, he has learned how to craft weaponry, develop medical practices, and even learn to communicate with humans through basic sign language.
Since the destruction of over half of the island's landmass as well as his species, Kong has kept the island's ecosystems stable. Compared to other ecosystems, Skull Island houses a disproportionate amount of predators, and under normal circumstances most of the fantastic creatures on the island would have gone extinct from overpredation. The only thing keeping this delicate balance, Kong is truly a god of this island. The Iwi people see him as a deity, a guardian, as well as one of their own. He is the sole reason life on the island continues as it is. Kong appears to hold a unique hatred for skull crawlers and other true hypervores. To the Iwi, this hatred is explained in one of their myths. The story is set not long after the great earthquakes that resulted in much of the island disappearing beneath the waves. After this great calamity, an army of skull crawlers began to ruthlessly hunt down the kongs that had survived, all led by an unknown outsider. All of the great kongs were slain, save for two. These two survivors were Kong's mother and father. Having fought all they could, it was not long until they had to make their final stand. Kong's father fought valiantly, protecting his pregnant mother while she gave birth. Born into a world of blood, Kong was immediately sealed in a cave while his mother left heartbroken to protect him until her dying breath. The entire night the pair fought against the invader and their beasts of war. The battle was brutal, but the kongs were able to seal away the invader. The two war beasts were trapped as well, a flying monster with wings of thunder, and the great skull devil of the island. The battle would prove far too arduous for the kongs, who would perish before they could return to their newborn son. Kong, now the sole protector of the sacred island, would always be followed by the spirits of his parents who gave their lives fighting. The king would never then rest in his effort to rid the island of the creatures who sent his species to extinction.
