Loriculus gardenicus
Loriculus gardenicus (Hanging Flower Parrot) are a species of flora-fauna parrot hybridized with a species of flowering plant. Hanging Flower Parrots behave near identically to other hanging parrots, although their diet now includes a larger portion insects. The flower that adorns the parrot's head is fully functional, producing nectar, pollen and even capable of photosynthesis which supplies energy to the bird. Hanging Flower Parrots produce fruit which are carefully placed in nests where the fruit will eventually break like an egg as the chick emerges. Both parents engage in parental care, switching between finding food and staying in the nest. Hanging Flower Parrots spend most of their day singing in the high canopy, hanging upside down from branches and exposing their flowers to the sun. This serves as both a source of energy from the sun, as well as camouflage from predators who mistake them for flowering leaves.
