Mire Squid

Gigantus leviapus

Mire Squid is a 33 meter long, 8-legged, cephalopod that lives in the coastal estuaries of Skull Island, only traveling into freshwater to breed. Although 33 meters is the average length of the species, larger specimens have been recorded, with one individual rivaling the 180 meter long Gezora in size. Like all cephalopods, the Mire Squid possesses chromatophores which allow it to change its colour and texture to camouflage, although it favours a dark red colouration. When threatened the Mire Squid will release superheated ink to burn and blind would be predators. Mire Squid hunt with a unique method, their beaked jaws act as a centrifuge, spinning rapidly to create a vortex that sucks anything unable to swim away. When food in the water is unavailable, the Mire Squid can reach its arms out of the water to snare nearby animals.
