Psychovulture

Vultura insanus

Psychovulture is a flying reptile however aside from its relation to the Leafwing species the true taxonomy of this animal is unknown. With a 3 meter wingspan, Psychovultures are the apex predators of the sky, however the largest species of volucerictid, the Terapusmordax is slightly larger. Psychovultures and the Leafwings were responsible for the near eradication of the volucericitds with species only surviving by migrating to higher climates, occupying a smaller niche below the jungle canopy or switching to a nocturnal lifestyle. The animal's optic nerves lack light receptors, suggesting blindness, but further investigation of the nerve impulses suggests the creature has evolved a form of thermal vision, along with a basic echolocation, that enables it to locate hot-blooded prey. This winged, bat-like predator may be the first creature on Earth to exhibit signs of psychopathy. An airborne creature of pure aggression, it self-induces psychoactive effects activated by ingesting a poisonous pufferfish indigenous to the waters of Skull Island. The mania this chemical agent induces drives the Psychovulture to destroy or disrupt any lifeform it encounters, even going so far as to hunt and kill its own kind. A relatively small digestive system suggests the creature has evolved to feed on plant life and small animals, yet it has been observed dragging off prey that is far too large for it to ever consume. Psychovultures also possess an organ located in their throat that produces bio-electricity and can be expelled through the mouth in a similar form to lightning.
