Skull Island Cherry Shrimp

Neocaridina skullus

Skull Island Cherry Shrimp is a strange example of convergent adaptation, unlike other wild cherry shrimp, these have colouration similar to captive bred specimens, bright reds, blues, greens, blacks, yellows, violets and even glass-like variations have been observed. All variations can interbreed with another confirming they are the same species. They independently evolved these colours to blend in with the plethora of colourful rocks and crystals that lay at the bottom of Skull Island’s slow moving streams. They feed on just about anything they can find, however they favour biofilm and algae. These Cherry Shrimp will also partake in cleaning small passive fish, removing parasites and other unwanted guests.
