Atrinite (ae-trihn-ait)

The organic metallic compound that occurs in the cells of Tank savants that has replaced 1/3 of their bodily H2O. This metal makes Tanks skin tough enough to withstand bullets and their bones strong enough not to break.

Physical & Chemical Properties

It occurs at a lower percentage in various organs the closer you get to the center of their body/limbs making muscle more fragile than skin or bones, blood vesselsp/capliaries more fragile than muscle; internal organs are the most fragile of all, though still touger than a non-savant's. Thus, Tanks can still bruise or be crushed if the force is high enough.   It also makes them more resistant to being burned from the sun or other hot substances, though not immune. It also doesn't seem to change their nervous system much from humans as Tanks can still feel pain.   When given sustaining blood and electrical energy from the body, it will repair itself more quickly than non-atrinite tissue and can be stimulated with mineral supplements. This which allows Tanks to heal faster than other savants or humans.

This substance can be extracted from Tanks using chemical means, but in doing so it will kill the person.

History & Usage

Everyday use

Extracted atrinite can be used to make cybernetic modifications virtually indestructable and self-healing. However, due to the high cost of extraction, this practice is fairly taboo. It is often done by the CORPs on deceased Tanks (POWs or criminals, though innocent Tanks do disappear from time to time).   It is sometimes given as payment for an employee working with the CORPs for exceptional work record or other completed noteworthy task. The cartels do not allow the extraction of this material, but they will sell it second hand on the black market. Savants find this substance generally abhorrent and wouldn't touch it with a 10-foot pole...unless, of course, they were broke.
