Birdfolk
Birdfolk
Alternate Name: FientariSylvan Name: Aroko'qo Birdfolk are an exploratory race of Fey which are highly adaptive and can live in any environment. While, as all Fey, they call the Rainy Country their home, many Birdfolk treat the island of Kai'Rin as a second homeland. Birdfolk are also especially common in Arberia, where they find happy employment among the merchant caravans and are given the opportunity to learn about a plethora of peoples.
General Information
Rarity: Common. (You may play this race without consulting the DM.) Physical Description: Birdfolk sport feathers all across their body and have claws and talons instead of hands and feet. They do have opposable thumbs, and are just as capable as any humanoid at using them. Birdfolk are flightless, though some may have vestigial wings that allow them to glide more easily. Their eyes are beady and they have outward-pointing beaks instead of mouths. Birdfolk are about the size of humans, though they tend to weigh less because of their bones, which are hollow. Family Structure: Birdfolk typically live with their immediate families, though they care greatly for their older folk, who may move in if they need the aid or care of their youngers. This typically happens towards the end of their lives, when grandchildren have reached adulthood. This is because Birdfolk typically leave their families when they become adults, and thus parents suddenly find enough empty space and resources to take in the aging grandparents. When Birdfolks leave home, they spend a period of time exploring the world before returning to live more sedentary, independent lives near their family. Attitude Toward Society: Birdfolk have a fascination with mortal societies. They have an intellectual admiration for their complexity and rules, but at the same time they do not want to be personally involved with them. Still, they can settle down and fit in well enough, though they always need their alone time in less depressing locales, such as local glades, oases, or rock circles, where they can meditate and get back in touch with the natural world. Attitude Toward Gender: Birdfolk do not have obvious sexual characteristics, and are by all accounts androgynous. They may adopt gender identities as a result of their intrigue in societal workings, but this is typically less of a personal choice and more of one made through personal interest. Birdfolk can often fall into the dominant society's gender dynamics based on the color of their feathers, and the associations of those colors within broader culture, leading to some to dye their feathers so as to "change" their "gender." Attitude Toward Relationships: Birdfolk form very close life partnerships, and these are often the only relationships they have in their lives. If a life partner dies, Birdfolk typically do not find another, though if they do, it is often one who has experienced a simialr loss. Birdfolk rarely form these relationships outside of their race, partly because others take such commitments less seriously.Race (5e)
