Elvenmint

Elvenmint is a category of plants which are native to Pharos. They are generally considered toxic weeds by most races, but are widely cultivated by the Elves, to whom they cause no harm. Dragonkin can also consume Elvenmint without any problems, and Fey can ingest it in small quantities without harm.   Among Elves, Elvenmint is often used as a spice, processed into candy, or employed as a reagent for medicinal and disinfectant purposes. It is lightly bitter, leaving a pleasantly cool aftertaste that lasts for hours. It is not abrasive like other mints, nor does it fade as quickly. Elvenmint is as toxic to most bacteria as it is to non-Elves, and so many Elves use it to maintain their teeth. It sheds its taste onto food when cooked, and mixes pleasantly with any other spice you throw at it.   When most non-Elves consume Elvenmint, they will experience a burning sensation in their mouth which rapidly travels down the esophagus and into the stomach. If Elvenmint is spit out, this process can be stopped. In most cases, it will fade within the day, though in prolonged cases the tongue may have to be cut out. If swallowed, Elvenmint will cause violent vomitting with prominent blood, as the stomach lining is shed. Most will die at this stage, though survival may be possible if the Elvenmint is thrown up. If Elvenmint passes, it will cause further damage to the intestines, virtually guaranteeing hemorrhaging and death.   Fey do not experience these effects unless they consume Elvenmint in excessive doses. Many Fey consume Elvenmint recreationally, especially through its oily form, so as to manage the dosage better. Elvenmint will lull Fey to a dreary sleep, though microdosing it merely results in a calm, relaxed state. If the state of sleep is reached, vivid and lucid dreams will occur, all of which are typically positive in nature. If one takes too much Elvenmint for a microdose, but not enough to sleep, hallucinations may occur. These also tend to be pleasant.
