High Elves

High Elves

High Elves - it's said that no race is prettier, nor more pretentious. The history of the High Elves is paved with great glory and they hold legitimate claims to the creation of written language, the Prime Canon and, indeed, orderly society. This glory is overshadowed, however, by a stereotypical air of superiority. Even the most open-minded and conscientious of High Elves struggles with an over-valuation of themselves. This quality has led to many wars between the nations of High Elves and the other races throughout Eashavar's history, and it has historically surfaced as a racial supremacy which taints the reputation of High Elves to the modern day.

General Information

Rarity: Common. (You may play this race without consulting the DM.)   Physical Description: No race is more posh and regal than the High Elves, ever-obsessed with their own aura and appearance. While they are just slightly taller than humans, ranging from six to seven feet, they are much more slender. Dimorphism between High Elves is actually quite minimal, though females tend to be just slightly heavier. High Elven skin tends to be very pale, though is sometimes golden or even darker in complexion, and their hair is silvery, blonde, or white, with little to no body or facial hair growing upon them.   Family Structure: High Elves typically live among small families, with their direct descendents and lovers. They are quite close to their siblings and ancestors, but they rarely live together, and their friendships tend to be just as close. Surnames are a significant indicator of status within High Elven society, with especially powerful nobles having a monopoly on their particular name, forcing any others to rename themselves.   Attitude Toward Society: High Elves claim to be the originators of civilization, but they are, ironically, quite bad at adopting to other social structures. They view their order as the only correct one, and think that other societies pale in comparison. Still, they can adapt, though they usually maintain the pretentious derision they are well-known to have, viewing themselves above all others.   Attitude Toward Gender: High Elves have very strict gender roles, with four recognized genders: what may be considered "men," what may be considered "women," and then those men who take on feminine roles, and those women who take on masculine roles. In the nobility, all genders are considered equal, but in the lower and middle classes, families tend to be more heavily matriarchal. The lack of a matriarch is among the many reasons that a man might become a woman, and thus gender is somewhat fluid among the High Elves.   Attitude Toward Relationships: Most High Elves enter into monogamous relationships, though before they marry, they may have multiple partners, and live with each other for years, decades, or even centuries without official ceremony. Homosexuality is fairly common among High Elves, as reproduction is rare anyways among such a long-lived peoples, to the point that heterosexuality is not considered a norm (they are, roughly, equally common).

High Elven feats emphasize their egotistical nature, their tight grip on their familial and cultural past, and their affinity for the arcane.
