The First Elven War
Military: War
With the subjugation of the dragons and the disappearance of the Silver Flight, Delos'Nordan looked to regain its lost lands on the continent of Pharos. This brought it into conflict with the Dark Elf exiles in Farenai, as well as the Forest Elves of Everaldimor. Minor participants dragged into the conflict included Devania, who had historically been treated as a vassal state, Montbay, and the Desert Elves of Arberia.
Causes
Delos'Nordan stabilized its position upon Pharos, and looked to retake lost lands. The forests of Everaldimor and the swamps of Farenai had long been core territories before the Age of Destruction, and the human kingdom of Devania a vassal. Delos'Nordan also laid claims to the territories of various Old Faith traditions south of Devania, which joined in its defense.
Description
War had first officially broke out with Farenai, with which Delos'Nordan had had a passive conflict since its declaration. It was not until the end of the Age of the Destruction that High Elven armies marched onto Everaldimor, and the scattered Forest Elf tribes mounted a disorganized defensive. This defensive was surprisingly successful, due to the foreign jungle terrain, and the tribes soon consolidated to resist a broader invasion, formally declaring kinship with Farenai to the north.
At the same time in the west, Devania had gotten comfortable with its largely autonomous state. They had fended for themselves in the war against dragons, and had been untouched by the High Elves since the start of the age. Now, Delos'Nordan demanded a return to old diplomacy, which the Devanian king firmly resisted. The outbreak of war spurred a revolt in the various western Old Faith regions, majority-human, and the mass execution of their High Elven occupants. The Hill-Wigs and Rhyders had long abhorred Elven presence in their lands, especially because of their evangelicalism for the Prime Canon, and tensions had been hot throughout Farther west, Desert Elves moved to aid the western human kingdoms, fearing what High Elven expansionism could lead to if it was to succeed.
This combination of fronts, along with the still-fragile status of Delos'Nordan, led to weariness and lack of morale among the High Elves. The impossibility of fighting in foreign terrain further complicated matters, and when battle lines were moving, it was hardly ever good news for the empire. Still, the wars dragged on by sheer will of Elven determination, leading to one of the longest conflicts in history.
Results
The result was largely a stalemate. Independence of Everaldimor and Farenai was officially recognized, as was the validity of the Devanian state. The Old Faith tribes were not included in peace talks, but did succeed in functional independence as well, as the High Elves consolidated the lands of central and north-eastern Pharos. Their empire extended through The Vale, and the eastern part of modern Southmoor, down to the Feral Lands.
