Legends and poetry about the Waves of Woe and the Violet Dragonflight first appear in Kai'Rin.

The Waves of Woe is a phrase which refers to varied stories and legends about the sea-borne Violet Dragonflight and encounters with its drakes upon the waves. A variety of poems, songs, and tales bear the name, though they tend to vary greatly in details from town-to-town. Because of delays in the development of writing in the nation, it's unknown if these stories emerged through independent encounters with drakes and merely unified on a name due to their similarities, or if they stem from one tale augmented by a societal game of telephone.   Most stories reference the Kai'Rinese Emperor, though encounters with the Violet Dragonflight likely predate the establishment of the Crown of Pearls.
