The Thirsty Goat

"Home of the famous Poison Ale."

The Thirsty Goat is Spiderhaunt's pride and joy, sitting comfortably city center. When considering the village's population, the tavern seems wildly oversized. The roof of the The Thirsty Goat is visible from every other part of town, and thus it is usually the first major feature visitors notice. Arriving from the north (as pictured) one can see four distinct stories above the stony foundation which frames the cellar and kitchen. From the south, the visitor sees the tavern is built into the hillside. The inn juts out from the topography, built on thick, old timber which elevates the building over the large double doors of a stable. Above this, the first floor is fully lit, the light inside glowing windows shifting with the movement of patrons inside. The rooms above are almost certainly individual guest rooms. They appear to be lit randomly, though each window is arranged in a neat row wrapping around the building. On the roof, smoke billows from 5 separate chimneys in the dead of winter.   Upon arrival at the foot of The Thirsty Goat, travelers from either direction will need to climb a series of stairs to reach a wooden platform which wraps around the building. During summer, the patio is filled to the brim with tables and benches, each arranged around a small fire pit for the cold evening hours. By sunset, the patio is crowded. It smells of smoke, ale, and a menagerie of grub. While most do not come to the tavern for a meal, one can be had. And, since there are no restaurants in the small village of Spiderhaunt, it is the only option for a weary traveler to catch a bite.

Tourism

Day to Day Visitors

  Dwarven Miners
Any dwarf who has worked The Mountains of Copper more than a week knows of The Thirsty Goat. They trickle out of the mountains at all times of day as they are not beholden to time or daylight. While most prefer to take the trip down in the evening to celebrate achievements in the mine, a quick respite for alcohol during the work week is equally important. Dwarves pay for barrels of ale to be shipped to the entrance to Brimshell.

Mid-Spring through Late-Fall

  Visitors from Port Ghaast
While not here for tourism, citizens of Port Ghaast spend weeks to months here starting mid-Spring and leaving early-Fall. The Deep Wild Woods south of Spiderhaunt (and in some ways a part of Spiderhaunt) provide the safest access to removal of old timber, and Spiderhaunt provides the only warm bed between Port Ghaast and Almorel. Lumber   Visitors from Almorel
Visiting citizens from Almorel are rare, though they do sometimes join caravans passing through the desert wastes between Almorel and Spiderhaunt. Traders traveling the Golden Road pass from Almorel through Spiderhaunt on their way to sell goods in the south. The route between the Mountains of Copper and the Spiderhaunt Mountains offers both a Kingdom-neutral zone and the shortest course to Brightstar Lake.   Hunters
From fall through late-fall, hunters (primarily elves) arrive to hunt Deepspawn in the Great Wild Woods. While many stay at the hunting lodge, they still take the trip up to The Thirsty Goat for a drink and, sometimes, a meal. They arrive in groups of 3-7, which are reflective of their hunting parties. It is uncommon, though not rare, to see an elf alone in the tavern.
