“I wish I could dream up a better world for us.”
“Then we’ll find a way to make your Dreams Manifest.”
Vulwin Dorren was once a young man in the freshly built
Oshran Empire . A collection of [Five] cities, each serving the whole. Though the Empire was built on good intentions, much of the land of Idriell was dangerous - and the cities themselves proved no different. Vulwin was an idealist, and sought others like him. He complained to his colleague,
Pikyr the Faithful that the world was unjust. Pikyr knew what Vulwin could create if given ontological power, and so fashioned some restraints. Pikyr gifted Vulwin a Beholder named Gulthias, and a cage to keep him asleep.
With Vulwin at the head of the Dream Manifest, he was able to turn
Ohst Lor into a paradise - verdant plants and rejuvenation pools, and enough food to feed a continent. But with the Dream Manifest came a price - the Beholder must be kept sleeping. And so the cage around the Beholder grew, as Vulwin built halls and passages, the cage became Gleaming, connected to a set of hallways Vulwin built for quick, immediate travel to each of the five Oshran Cities via Gleaming Gates; connections that largely still stand to this day.
As the Gleaming Hallways grew, a need to keep the Dream Architect Gulthias in check was needed. So Vulwin created a set of systems to protect the Hallways and his allies; 5 Keepers to guide, watch, record, control and guard, and 3 Wardens to protect.
As Vulwin grew more powerful, he sought more ways to control the powers he manifested - reaching out to the Cults of El-Ren for ontological Deep Speech, and lost control of the Dream as a result. He hid himself away in one of the many Ziggurats that plagued Idriell, hiding deep within it - as nightmares were summoned by anyone remotely close to Ohst Lor.
Vulwin Dorren was slain by Eirene, Fury, Misbeth Inkorathi, Kaecil Kayessan and Roywyn Ironhide. The Umbral Court claimed his soul for the crimes of manifesting and ultimately becoming Waking Nightmares.
