Kyrien (Ke-ren)

The Divine Walkers

Derived from the name "valkyr," which means "chooser of the slain" in ancient Frystian tongues, the Kyriens are beings steeped in legend and shrouded in celestial mystery. In the vast expanse of Eastrix, they are regarded with a blend of awe, veneration, and, sometimes, fear. Their name echoes tales of guardianship, protection, and an unyielding commitment to the cosmic balance.

Kyriens are known for their striking appearance. Ethereal beauty marks their features, with skin tones that shimmer like dawn or dusk. Their eyes, the most captivating feature, often resemble twin galaxies or starry nights. Most have long, luminescent hair that appears to be woven from strands of moonlight and stardust. Though humanoid in form, a soft halo of radiant energy often frames them, and it's said that their tears crystallize into stars. As the first known humanoid celestial creatures to grace Eastrix, the Kyriens hold a place of respect and reverence. Often seen as emissaries or representatives of the divine, they've established themselves in various roles – from scholars and sages to warriors and diplomats. Despite their long lives and near-immortality, the Kyriens are not removed from the pains and passions of existence. They form deep bonds, experience profound love, and can suffer immense heartbreak. Kyrien society is built upon the principles of honor, duty, and celestial balance. They believe in guiding and guarding the mortal realm, ensuring that the delicate balance between light and shadow is maintained.

Beyond their celestial beauty, Kyriens possess abilities that set them far apart from other beings. They can harness the raw energy of the cosmos, weaving them into spells and enchantments. Their celestial lineage grants them unmatched prowess in healing, divination, and elemental control. Kyriens have an innate ability to sense disturbances in the cosmic balance. This makes them formidable foes against entities that seek to disrupt the natural order. They can tap into ancient celestial songs, using them to invoke blessings, barriers, or even bring forth celestial warriors to aid them in battle.

While many Kyriens embrace their divine duties, others, like Arch-Paladin Adamiel, grapple with the weight of expectation and legacy. Their eternal lives see them forming bonds with multiple generations, often guiding families or entire nations through centuries. Despite their power and position, not all of Eastrix's inhabitants view them with unbridled admiration. Their long-lived nature and the mystery surrounding their origins have also seeded distrust and envy among some. However, as the guardians of balance and order, the Kyriens remain ever watchful, their destinies intertwined with the very fabric of Eastrix.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Kyriens are celestial beings known for their ethereal beauty and unparalleled abilities that are closely associated with maintaining cosmic balance. They are respected and revered in the vast expanse of Eastrix and are recognized for their roles ranging from scholars and sages to warriors and diplomats. Their main role is to guide and guard the mortal realm, ensuring the balance between light and shadow is preserved.

Genetics and Reproduction

Origin of Life: Kyriens, as celestial guardians, aren't conceived and born in the conventional sense of organic life forms. Instead, they are divine creations, molded and birthed from the very essence of the cosmos by the gods of Eastrix. Each Kyrien is imbued with a unique purpose, destiny, or mission, which they are destined to fulfill during their existence.

Creation Process: When the balance of Eastrix is at stake or a significant event is foreseen, the gods come together in a celestial conclave. They draw upon the raw energies of the universe, combining it with their divine intent to shape and mold a new Kyrien. This process can be likened to crafting a star, with each Kyrien being a radiant beacon of purpose and power.

Gestation Period: There isn't a traditional "gestation" period for Kyriens since they don't undergo a physical birth process. However, the creation ritual might take time, varying depending on the complexity of the task the Kyrien is meant to undertake. During this period, the emerging Kyrien's essence is nurtured and strengthened, readying them for their destined role.

Intended Purpose: Once created, a Kyrien awakens with an innate understanding of their purpose. They possess an unyielding drive to fulfill their divine mission, be it guarding a realm, mediating cosmic disputes, or restoring balance to areas of discord. Although their tasks are varied, each Kyrien is essential to the grand tapestry of Eastrix.

Life Cycle: Kyriens, not being born in the typical sense, may not experience life and death in a conventional manner. Once their divinely-ordained task is complete, they might merge back into the cosmic energies, becoming one with the universe until they are called upon again. Alternatively, they could transition into another role or realm as determined by the gods.

Growth Rate & Stages

Kyriens, as celestial beings, experience life stages that reflect both their ethereal origins and their commitment to the cosmic balance of Eastrix. Their growth and transformations are less about physical maturation and more about spiritual and cosmic understanding, which aligns with their role as divine emissaries and guardians.

Infancy (Birth to 50 Years): Kyrien infants are born radiating a soft glow, a reflection of the new soul's purity. During this stage, they are nurtured not only by their parents but by the community as a whole. They learn to harmonize their innate celestial energy with the natural world around them. As they grow, their ethereal features become more pronounced, and their celestial abilities begin to manifest, albeit in a very mild and often uncontrollable manner.

Adolescence (51 to 150 Years): This is a time of learning and exploration for young Kyriens. They start to understand their place within the cosmos and begin to harness their abilities. Their education encompasses the history of the cosmos, the intricacies of celestial magic, and the importance of balance. It's during adolescence that their eye color deepens to the starry galactic appearance and their hair starts to show its luminescence.

Adulthood (151 to 500 Years):  Kyriens come into their full power in adulthood. They are expected to take on roles that contribute to the society and the cosmic balance. Many become scholars, diplomats, or warriors, depending on where their talents lie. As they mature, the halo of radiant energy that frames them becomes more pronounced, symbolizing their readiness to take on greater responsibilities.

Elderhood (501 Years and Beyond): The eldest Kyriens are revered for their wisdom and experience. They often take on advisory roles or become teachers to the younger generations. In this stage, a Kyrien's skin may take on the appearance of a twilight sky, and their hair may shimmer as if reflecting the phases of the moon. Their innate abilities reach their zenith, allowing them to perform feats of magic that can affect the very fabric of reality.

Ascension: It is believed that when a Kyrien has fulfilled their purpose and maintained the balance throughout their life, they undergo a transformation known as Ascension. This transformation is a closely guarded secret, witnessed by few. It is said that upon Ascension, a Kyrien becomes one with the cosmos, their essence spreading across the stars, leaving behind a legacy that will guide future generations.

Throughout their lives, Kyriens experience transformations that align with significant celestial events or personal milestones. These are not just changes in age but evolutions of spirit and understanding. The Kyrien's connection to the cosmos and their role as stewards of balance dictate that each stage of life is not only a personal journey but a universal one that affects the heavens and the material realm alike.

Ecology and Habitats

The optimal environment for Kyriens is deeply intertwined with their celestial patronage and their divine missions within Eastrix. This means that depending on which god a Kyrien has had their divien influence from, it also decides what enivornments they naturally seek. This can e.g. be seen in Kyriens under the Red Matron. They are often found within structured societies, acting as diplomats, advisors, or leaders, where their celestial wisdom and presence foster harmony and strategic foresight. Kyriens serving Zepthrion the Dark Hunger may be at the vanguard of armies, embodying the war god’s might, turning the tides in battles while preventing unnecessary conflict with their innate sense of cosmic balance. Kyriens of Waukeen, Lady of Gold, naturally gravitate towards centers of commerce and trade, using their divine insight to create prosperity while ensuring fair dealings. This goes on for each and every god. Depending on strong the celestial influence is, a Kyrien might be more or less inclined to participating in such environements. A Kyrien of Asmodeus, might due to celestial influence seek environments where lying is allowed, like casinos or pubs if lightly influenced. But if heavily influenced Kyriens of Asmodeus might even seek towards grander goals like becoming a corrupt politician or other grand distrubances.

Behaviour

In Eastrix, the celestial influence imbued within Kyriens profoundly affects their innate behaviors, aligning with the essence of their divine progenitors and shaping their role in the world's magical ecosystem. These beings are conduits of Divinium, the raw divine magic that permeates the realm, granting them abilities and temperaments reflective of their patron deities.
Kyriens influenced by Zepthrion, the God of War, are imbued with a fierce and martial prowess. Their demeanor is often assertive, and their presence commands respect on the battlefield. Their magic is tinged with the raw energy of conflict, often manifesting in enhanced strength or martial skills that make them formidable protectors or warriors.

Conversely, Kyriens who draw their essence from Waukeen, the Lady of Gold and the God of Prosperity, exude a magnetic charm and a keen mind for negotiation. Their magic lends itself to creating bonds, influencing commerce, and ensuring the flourishing of communities through charisma and shrewd diplomacy.

The Divinium within Kyriens resonates with the world's ley lines, ebbing and flowing with the natural currents of magic. This resonance can cause shifts in their environment, as the Kyriens' divine magic naturally seeks equilibrium with the ambient arcane forces. Their presence can bolster the land's fertility where life is revered, or, in the case of those aligned with more destructive deities, make the land stark and formidable.

Thus, the Kyriens, each reflecting the divine spectrum of Eastrix's pantheon, serve as both guardians and embodiments of their patrons' will. Their behaviors, from the compassionate care of Lathander's disciples to the somber watchfulness of those dedicated to King Yama, are all expressions of the gods' influence through the fabric of Divinium.
