Church of Secrets

Written by Salen

The followers of the God of Shadows and Thievery are many, and any rogue or deviant that seeks to keep secrets and skulk in the shadows calls this God their patron. Thieves of any race, shopkeepers, and even mages that control light and ether can flock to this God, as well as everyday people that seek keep something from someone else.

History

The Church of Secrets, devoted to the Nor, God of Thieves and Shadows , was created right after the holy men created Dava's church. It was right after Star Fall and the folk that followed the Wayward Priest of Dava forgot about everyone else. The Folk that didn't walk into the light, those that had secrets they wanted to keep to themselves, walked the other way and found a dark clothed man waiting for them. He promised comfort and privacy ad led them to the other side of the lake and started a small village in secret. They only numbered in the twenties, but they had each other.

Divine Origins

The origin of the Church of Secrets is pulled from the time that Everloom was attacked by Goblins. You see, the goblins came to them first! The horde was ready to ransack the dark village, which still had problems with keeping a fire going overnight, and before they could attack, the dark man talked them into attacking the main city of Everloom to the northeast. He spun a tale of riches and stockpiles of food, and soon the goblins were on their way. No one ever knew that it was these quiet people that set monsters upon humanity, but it was then that the Church was established.

Tenets of Faith

The Tenants of Nor's faith is very simple. He is a God of secrets and never speaks plainly. He implores his followers to:
  • Never tell the whole truth.
  • What isn't yours could be.
  • The Darkness will comfort you.
  • If someone takes something from you, take everything from them.

Worship

The everyday people worship Nor in more ways than one would think. He is called upon for telling lies to loved ones, keeping secrets from children, and to get home in the dark on a lonely road. His prayers are heard more at midnight on a dark road.
Nor, Hear our Prayers and give us darkness!

Priesthood

The Priesthood is made up of different titles and positions throughout the land, though everyone begins as an acolyte. The acolytes, are found in every church from the smallest shrine to the largest cathedral. They keep the lights dim and the doors ready to welcome any who need help. The Shadows (full fledged Priests) are only found in city churches and work as fences and sometimes brokers for the illicit dealings in the city. These churches usually are safe houses for folk on the run and anyone who is wanted by the law. The Holy Shadow of which there is only 1, is only found in the largest cathedral located in Garon'd. This being is the most powerful rogue and Holy man of Nor in Tamia and it takes a lifetime to get to this level of power.

Granted Divine Powers

Nor grants prayers to his loyal Shadows (acolytes cannot cast prayers). These prayers can take the form of anything the Priest needs at the moment, from blending in shadows to calling down darkness upon their enemies. Below is a quick list of just some of the Prayers that have been recorded in the history books:
  • Call upon darkness - Extinguish light with a globe of darkness.
  • See in total darkness - Be able to see even in pitch blackness
  • Rain of acid - Call down a shower of acid to hurt you enemies.
  • Weapon blessing - This prayer makes the weapons touched fire quicker and deal more damage.

In the Dark, everything is hidden.
